Founded in 1988, Kathy Mata Ballet is one of the few dance companies in the country to provide talented adult dancers from non-dance professions with the opportunity to train and perform. The company dancers, all of whom dance and rehearse at least four times a week on top of their professional working day, come from a variety of careers including accounting, engineering, law, and scientific research.
Kathy Mata serves as the company’s artistic director and primary choreographer. She enjoys creating contemporary as well as classical-style works and prides herself on producing programs featuring a variety of dance styles and music, including ballet, modern dance, jazz, hip hop, salsa, lyrical, and musical theater, among others.
Kathy Mata Ballet strives to offer audiences quality, innovative dance performances. Our work has been showcased in venues including the Herbst Theatre, Cowell Theater, Alonzo King Lines Dance Center, community centers, and retirement communities. Our company is even highlighted in the video documentary, Adult Beginner Ballet. Presently, Kathy Mata Ballet performs several times throughout the year, and is very interested in expanding our service to the community.
